Adam Devine recently shared a shocking health revelation that stemmed from a childhood accident he’s been living with for years. Appearing on the In Depth with Graham Bensinger podcast, the Modern Family actor discussed the chronic pain that had plagued him since he was 11 years old, following a traumatic incident where he was run over by a cement truck while out shopping for candy with friends. Although he physically recovered, the accident left long-lasting effects on his body, causing spasms and pain, especially after physical exertion.

Devine opened up about a recent, frightening conversation with his doctors, who delivered a shocking prognosis. “They told me I was dying,” he revealed. The doctors believed that he had stiff-person syndrome, a rare condition where the muscles involuntarily tighten and stiffen, potentially affecting vital organs like the heart, which could eventually stop beating.

However, after consulting with a specialist, Devine received a different diagnosis. The specialist dismissed the stiff-person syndrome diagnosis, explaining that the spasms and pain were likely due to the trauma from his childhood accident. The doctor speculated that his body had become so stiff over the years that it was now reacting in an abnormal way, like it was overwhelmed and confused.

Devine also suggested that his recent push to get physically fit during the pandemic might have exacerbated his condition. He admitted that he had become “so tightly wound” during his fitness journey that his body began to react in strange, painful ways until it eventually “snapped.” Although he’s still dealing with some of the effects, he revealed that after undergoing stem cell treatment, he’s now feeling the best he has in years.
