Amy Schumer has never been the type to keep things polite and quiet. She’s all about speaking her mind, even if it means ruffling a few celebrity feathers. Whether she’s teasing Hilaria Baldwin for having what she called a “Von Trapp amount” of children, questioning why Leonardo DiCaprio always dates models who are barely past 21, or bringing up her not-so-friendly history with Jenny McCarthy, Amy doesn’t hold back. And yeah, she once described Donald Trump in some pretty colorful terms, calling him an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster.” So subtle.
With all that firepower, it’s no surprise that Amy’s had to take some hits too. Being one of the most outspoken women in comedy has made her a magnet for criticism. She’s had people from all over come at her — fans, fellow celebs, even civil rights figures. She’s been in messy fights with beauty influencers, been accused of hypocrisy by actors, and has had awkward tension with other comedians. Basically, for every joke she throws, someone out there is ready to throw one back.
Amy’s sharp tongue has earned her Golden Globe and Grammy nominations, but it’s also landed her on a lot of famous people’s bad sides. Let’s just say, there’s a long list of celebs who would probably skip the invite if she were hosting the party.
Khloé Kardashian called Amy Schumer a hypocrite
Amy Schumer might have thought she was being clever or even kind when she brought up Khloé Kardashian’s weight loss while hosting Saturday Night Live in 2016. But Khloé didn’t exactly take it as a compliment.
During her opening monologue, Schumer joked that Khloé used to be one of “us” but then lost so much weight that she basically turned into Kendall Jenner. The line got laughs from the audience, but when Khloé heard the clip later during her appearance on The Howard Stern Show, she wasn’t laughing.
Even though she said she finds Amy funny, Khloé called her out for being a bit of a hypocrite. She pointed out that Amy often talks about empowering women and supporting body positivity, yet here she was making a joke that seemed to criticize someone for not being “relatable” just because they lost weight.
Khloé explained that she had worked hard for years to get healthier and felt proud of her progress. She questioned the whole idea of “losing Khloé” and asked, who exactly decided that? What group was she supposedly no longer a part of just because her body had changed?
Gabrielle Union talked about Amy’s insensitivity
Gabrielle Union didn’t hold back during the press tour for the film Birth of A Nation. While talking about how the movie could spark deeper discussions about white privilege, she name-dropped a few celebrities who she felt had benefited from those systems, Amy Schumer was one of them.
In an interview with xoNecole, Union explained that she wanted to help unpack how certain people are allowed to say offensive or tone-deaf things without facing real consequences. She mentioned Schumer and Kate Upton, and noted that she’d already had a tough conversation with Lena Dunham. According to Union, these kinds of talks can be incredibly uncomfortable and intense—similar, she said, to the way people react when talking about consent.
While Union’s issue with Upton was more straightforward—Upton had publicly criticized NFL players who kneeled during the national anthem, it wasn’t completely clear what Schumer had done to draw her criticism. However, many pointed to an interview Schumer did with Dunham where they discussed NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. The interview led to backlash after Dunham made problematic assumptions about Beckham, later apologizing for contributing to harmful stereotypes about Black men. Schumer, however, chose not to comment publicly on the situation, which may have added to Union’s frustration.
Josh Peck believes Amy Schumer threw a comedian under the bus
After co-hosting the Oscars a couple of years earlier, Amy Schumer clearly felt she had the authority to weigh in on Jo Koy’s much-talked-about hosting performance at the 2024 Golden Globes. During an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, she didn’t hold back, saying Jo Koy basically got schooled that night, and not in a good way.
She also criticized Koy for blaming his writers when his jokes didn’t land, suggesting that as a host, you should take responsibility. Schumer even pointed out that during her own time hosting the Oscars, she made sure to clear any edgy jokes with the celebrities beforehand—something she implied Koy didn’t do.
But that jab didn’t sit well with everyone. Over on the Good Guys podcast, actor Josh Peck called her out for doing the exact thing she had accused Koy of. “I feel defensive of comedians,” he said, describing comedy as a kind of family. Peck believed Schumer unfairly went after Koy, especially considering how tough the night had already been for him. “Why keep going after him a month later?” he asked, suggesting that as a fellow comedian, she should’ve shown more empathy instead of piling on.
Ashley Graham pointed out Amy Schumer’s ‘double standards’
Back in 2016, Glamour magazine featured Amy Schumer alongside Adele, Melissa McCarthy, and Ashley Graham in a special issue celebrating women who are “Chic at Any Size.” While it seemed like a feel-good moment, Schumer wasn’t exactly thrilled to be included—especially under the “plus-size” umbrella.
She jumped on Instagram to clarify that she doesn’t consider herself plus-size at all. According to her, that label usually applies to a size 16, while she typically wears a size 6 to 8. Schumer didn’t appreciate being categorized in a way she felt didn’t reflect her body type.
Ashley Graham, a well-known plus-size model, later responded in an interview with Cosmopolitan. She said she understood both perspectives, but felt Schumer’s reaction was a little contradictory. “Amy often talks about being a big girl in the entertainment industry,” she said. “But then when she’s included with us, she’s not okay with it? That felt like a double standard.”
Schumer eventually replied on Twitter, acknowledging Graham’s point and insisting she had “nothing but respect for her.”
Syleena Johnson called out Amy‘s silence over Black Lives Matter
Syleena Johnson isn’t one to bite her tongue, and during a 2024 appearance on the podcast Cocktails with Queens, she made her feelings about Amy Schumer loud and clear. While talking about the devastating mass shooting in Buffalo—which took the lives of 10 Black individuals—Johnson pointed out how the tragedy barely made waves in the media, and how some celebrities stayed noticeably silent.
She called out the double standard, comparing the lack of reaction to the Buffalo shooting with the overwhelming outrage that followed Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. “Remember when everyone was losing their minds over a slap between two grown men?” she said. “Now where’s that same energy when it’s a racist hate crime and people are actually killed?”
Johnson didn’t stop there. She directly criticized Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow, accusing them of being vocal when it comes to policing Black people, but eerily quiet when it comes to racially motivated violence. “Where are the crocodile tears now?” she asked, calling out what she sees as performative allyship.
Martin Luther King’s daughter was also disappointed with Amy Schumer
Lauren Jauregui called Amy Schumer a ‘genocidal freak’
Bernice King wasn’t the only person upset with Amy Schumer for bringing up Martin Luther King Jr. in a way many felt was inappropriate—Lauren Jauregui, formerly of Fifth Harmony, was also furious with the comedian’s actions online.
Months after Schumer posted a clip of Dr. King on X (formerly Twitter), Jauregui clapped back in a very direct post. She made it clear that she didn’t want people using Dr. King’s legacy to justify their political stances—especially not those who stay silent or passive on real-world harm. “I want all you passive genocidal freaks to keep Dr. King’s name tf out of your mouths tomorrow, thanks,” she wrote, tagging Schumer directly.
Jauregui has been very vocal in her support for Palestine, frequently calling for a ceasefire and criticizing those she sees as hypocrites. Not long before, she also called out actor Noah Jupe for sharing a message about peace while previously endorsing Zionist slogans and labeling Palestinian supporters as “terrorists.” Her response? She told him to “shut the actual f*** up” about wanting peace for everyone.
Nick Cannon also pointed Amy Schumer out for a homophobic slur
In 2018, when Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars after old homophobic tweets resurfaced, the conversation around accountability in comedy took a sharp turn—especially after Nick Cannon entered the chat.
Trying to highlight what he saw as a double standard in Hollywood’s so-called liberal culture, Cannon unearthed tweets from other comedians, including Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, and Chelsea Handler, that featured similarly problematic language. His point? If Hart was being called out, why weren’t these women facing the same level of scrutiny?
In Schumer’s case, Cannon resurfaced a 2012 tweet that read, “Enjoy ‘Skyfall’ f***. I’m bout to get knee deep in Helen Hunt #thesessions.” It was part of a thread where Cannon captioned each example with a pointed “Interesting, I wonder if there was any backlash here,” and eventually asked, “I’m just saying … should we keep going?”
While Schumer didn’t directly respond to the call-out, the incident reignited discussions about selective outrage, double standards in cancel culture, and how society handles comedians who cross the line—especially depending on their identity or politics.
