Jessica Simpson is embracing a new chapter in her life following her split from estranged husband Eric Johnson. Reflecting on the significant changes during her first concert in 15 years at the Luck Reunion music festival in Spicewood, Texas, Simpson, 44, opened up about how her life was turned “upside down.” While introducing her new album Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1, she acknowledged that everything in her personal life had dramatically shifted, and she had been asking herself deep, personal questions about her home life that led to some difficult realizations.

Simpson shared her feelings of vulnerability, admitting that opening one’s heart can sometimes lead to heartbreak. She reflected that many people don’t realize they have been broken for a long time until they face their emotions head-on. Despite the emotional pain, Simpson has found solace in music, using songwriting, singing, and self-reflection as a means of healing. She introduced her new song Leave, describing it as a “heartbreak, pissed-off song” before performing it live. The lyrics of the track seem to hint at betrayal, with the song expressing themes of loneliness, betrayal, and ultimately, finding strength on her own.

In January, Simpson and Johnson, 45, confirmed their separation after 10 years of marriage. Simpson shared in a statement that they had been living separately while navigating their situation, with a strong focus on their three children—Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5. She emphasized that their children remain the priority for both parents.

Simpson’s upcoming EP is heavily influenced by her separation from Johnson. The couple, who began dating in 2010 and married in 2014, had faced breakup speculation for months, especially after Simpson was seen without her wedding ring. Before Johnson, Simpson was married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006, and her previous relationships have included Tony Romo, Adam Levine, Johnny Knoxville, and John Mayer.
