Eminem’s publicist has addressed the recent theft of the rapper’s unreleased tracks by his former sound engineer, Joseph Strange. Strange, who worked at Eminem’s Ferndale studio for 14 years, is under federal indictment for stealing and selling over 25 unreleased tracks between 1999 and 2018. The stolen materials included handwritten lyric sheets, VHS tapes, and hard drives containing unpublished music. The FBI uncovered these items at Strange’s home.
The publicist expressed gratitude for the FBI’s thorough investigation, which led to charges against Strange, emphasizing the significant financial and artistic damage the theft caused. The representative stressed the importance of protecting Eminem’s creative legacy and the work of everyone involved in his projects.
The leak was discovered by studio staff in January, who identified an online listing of unreleased tracks tied to the studio’s internal files. The evidence suggested that only someone with direct access to the studio could have stolen the material.
If found guilty, Strange faces a potential five-year prison sentence and a fine of $250,000 for copyright infringement, along with the possibility of 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of stolen goods.
