The Kansas City Chiefs are set to star in a six-part docuseries, slated for release later this year. According to Deadline on March 28, the series will be a joint production by ESPN and Disney+.

However, fans hoping for a triumphant, storybook conclusion might need to adjust their expectations. Unlike classic sports films like Hoosiers or Miracle on Ice, this documentary will include footage of the Chiefs’ heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 2025, cutting short their bid for a historic three-peat.

Despite that setback, the series promises an in-depth look at the franchise’s modern dynasty. Executive producer Connor Schell, known for his work on The Last Dance, emphasized the significance of capturing the Chiefs’ journey.

“No team in sports has been more captivating over the last decade than the Kansas City Chiefs,” Schell said. “To go behind the scenes with their biggest stars and connect that story to the legacy of Lamar Hunt is a remarkable opportunity.”

The series is being produced through Schell’s company, Words + Pictures, in collaboration with Skydance Sports, which has an established partnership with the NFL. Additional involvement comes from NFL Films, Patrick Mahomes’ 2PM Productions, and the Chiefs’ own production team.

Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content, highlighted the project’s deeper storytelling. “This series will explore the legacy of the Chiefs while capturing the emotional highs and lows of building a championship team,” he explained. “From Patrick Mahomes’ brilliance to Andy Reid’s leadership and the passion of Chiefs Kingdom, we’re showcasing the drama, intensity, and heart that make this team a global phenomenon.”

Even though the final chapter won’t feature a Super Bowl victory parade, there will be no shortage of highlights. Cameras followed the Chiefs throughout their regular season and AFC Championship run, ensuring plenty of memorable moments. The series will also trace the franchise’s origins, spotlighting how Lamar Hunt founded the team and how his son, Clark Hunt, continues to carry the torch today.

For Chiefs fans, this documentary promises to be more than just a recap—it’s a deep dive into the making of a powerhouse, the struggles of maintaining greatness, and the enduring spirit of the team.
