The San Antonio Spurs are already setting their sights on next season, with their biggest hope being a fully healthy Victor Wembanyama. But what if they add another superstar to the mix?
According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Spurs might explore a trade for Kevin Durant, potentially forming one of the most dangerous offensive trios in the league alongside Wembanyama and (potentially) De’Aaron Fox.
Why would the Spurs go after Kevin Durant?
Pairing a 15-time All-Star and one of the greatest scorers in basketball history with a rising generational talent like Wembanyama could instantly elevate the Spurs into contender status. Durant’s ability to stretch the floor, score from anywhere, and create for himself would complement Wembanyama’s size and defensive dominance perfectly.
The Suns are in a tricky spot—they need to either retool or rebuild, and moving Durant would bring in much-needed assets. Phoenix would likely demand multiple first-round picks and possibly young talent in exchange. The Spurs, with their stockpile of draft capital and young players, are one of the few teams that could meet that asking price.
If the Spurs land Durant, they wouldn’t just be building for the future—they’d be a playoff threat immediately. A trio of Durant, Wembanyama, and Fox (if acquired) could be one of the most dynamic in the league, blending elite scoring, defense, and playmaking.
Of course, this is just speculation for now. But if the Spurs are serious about fast-tracking their rebuild, making a move for Durant could be their biggest power play yet.
