Fans of The Flaming Lips were rocked by distressing news as the band announced that percussionist Steven Drozd’s 16-year-old daughter, Charlotte, has gone missing. Reports indicate that she was last seen on October 5, 2024, around 11:30 a.m. near the iconic Space Needle in Seattle, Washington.
On October 7, both Drozd and frontman Wayne Coyne took to social media to share their urgent plea for help. Coyne’s post read, “URGENT!!! Please help if you can!!! Steven’s daughter (she is 16 years old) is missing!!! She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday….I’ll post more info as soon as I can.” Accompanying the message were emojis of hearts and praying hands, along with several hashtags, including “#flaminglips #MissingPerson #MissingChild.”

In the comments section, Drozd expressed his gratitude, writing, “Thank you Wayne for posting. We don’t know what to do.” The band also shared a missing person poster on their Facebook page to increase awareness.
According to reports from the Seattle Police Department, Charlotte, who goes by the nickname “Bowie,” was last spotted on the monorail near the Space Needle. The police have categorized her as a missing or runaway juvenile, and a detective from the Missing Persons Unit has been assigned to investigate her case.
Statistics from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) highlight the severity of the situation. In 2023, approximately 28,886 missing children cases were reported in the U.S., with 25,306 resolved, leaving 3,580 still active. In Washington state alone, 1,331 children were reported missing last year, with 84 current cases still unresolved.
The Flaming Lips are currently on their North American “Voyage to the Blue Planet” tour, opening for alternative rock band Weezer. Remarkably, the band performed in Seattle just one day before Drozd’s daughter went missing.
As the search continues, fans and fellow musicians are rallying together in hopes of finding Charlotte safe and sound.
