The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their inactives for the Week 4 game against the Indianapolis Colts, and rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson is once again on the list, delaying his NFL debut. Wilson, who suffered an ankle injury during training camp, missed all of the preseason and the first two games of the regular season. Although he has practiced fully for the past two weeks without any injury designation, he remains inactive.
Coach Mike Tomlin on Roman Wilson
Head coach Mike Tomlin provided some insight into Wilson’s situation, emphasizing that despite his health, Wilson still needs more preparation. Tomlin explained, “He got hurt on the sixth play of the first practice (in pads) of training camp. There are developmental things, physical plays, conditioning, and learning that go into his process that are not reflective of the overall process. Roman doesn’t have a whole lot of in-helmet experience to draw from. He’s healthy, but he still has a lot of work ahead of him in terms of being game ready.”
Despite Wilson’s solid performance during the offseason prior to his injury, the Steelers are exercising caution with his return, especially given their current challenges at wide receiver.
