Eufy has just launched the EufyCam S3 Pro, an innovative smart security camera that can capture color images in complete darkness using artificial intelligence (AI).

Typically, home security cameras face a trade-off when it comes to low-light conditions. They either switch to infrared (IR) mode, resulting in black-and-white footage, or they use a spotlight to illuminate the area, which can be disruptive to people and pets nearby. The EufyCam S3 Pro sidesteps these issues with its new MaxColor Vision technology, which enables it to record full-color images at night without requiring any additional lighting. A spokesperson for Eufy explained to The Verge that the S3 Pro can provide “daylike footage even in pitch-dark conditions, without the need for a spotlight.”

During testing at the IFA event, The Verge was impressed by the camera’s capabilities. Jennifer Pattison Tuohy reported that a camera placed in a completely dark room transmitted video to a monitor outside, making it appear as if it were daytime inside the room.

Smart Features

In addition to its remarkable low-light performance, the EufyCam S3 Pro utilizes AI to distinguish between various subjects such as people, animals, packages, and vehicles. It can even recognize frequent visitors to your home.

Smart Home Integration

The camera is compatible with major smart home systems, including Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa, allowing seamless integration with other smart devices in your home.

The EufyCam S3 Pro can be used wirelessly, thanks to its rechargeable battery and optional solar panel. According to Eufy, just one hour of sunlight is enough to fully charge the camera. Alternatively, you can keep it plugged in with a USB-C cable for continuous, 24/7 surveillance.

Pricing and Availability

The EufyCam S3 Pro is now available for purchase directly from Eufy for $549.99 (around £400 or AU$800). The package includes two cameras along with the HomeBase S380 base station, which offers an impressive 16TB of local storage for your video recordings—no subscription required!
