Mya Lowe is making waves as Corporal Edwina Yen in the new Fox series Murder in a Small Town. This show is based on a series of novels by L. R. Wright and follows Karl Alberg, played by Rossif Sutherland. Karl is a skilled detective from the big city who moves to a small town in British Columbia, hoping to enjoy a quieter life. But instead of peace, he finds himself wrapped up in a web of mystery and drama!

Who is Mya Lowe?

Mya Lowe is a 24-year-old actress who was born on December 6, 2000, in Victoria, Canada, although she now calls Vancouver home. In a 2023 interview with The Permanent Rain Press, she shared how growing up in Victoria shaped her. She couldn’t stop raving about her hometown and the beauty of British Columbia, saying, “I absolutely loved growing up in Victoria. The nature there has been so huge for me.” She loves the scenic views of the mountains and the adventures that come with living in the area.

When asked about the film scene in Vancouver, often called “Hollywood North,” Mya mentioned that she started noticing it more as she finished high school. Initially, she was more involved in the dance scene than acting. “I knew a lot more about the dancing in Vancouver,” she explained, which inspired her to make the move.

From Dance to Acting

Mya’s journey into the performing arts began with dance. She revealed to Julia Marley in an interview that she “caught the bug” for performing around the age of 12 when she discovered YouTube videos of dancers. “It looked so fun!” she recalled, and soon after, she began taking dance classes and competing. Her mother played a significant role in this journey, noticing Mya’s interest in dance and encouraging her to join a studio.

Despite her initial excitement, Mya admitted she was nervous about stepping into a dance studio for the first time. However, with her mom’s encouragement, she took that leap and started her dancing career.

A Turning Point in Acting

Mya also talked about her transition from dance to acting, pinpointing her time on the set of Disney’s Descendants 3 as a key moment. Watching the talented cast inspired her and sparked a desire to act. She loved the storytelling aspect of acting and felt a strong urge to move beyond just expressing herself through dance. As she continued her journey, she shifted her focus toward acting, leading her to train more seriously and ultimately audition for roles.

Gradually, her passion for acting took over, and dance became more of a side hobby. She began to see acting as her primary career and started landing various roles.

Mya’s Acting Career So Far

Before landing her role in Murder in a Small Town, Mya had already made a name for herself in several acting projects. She played Kiley in My Life with the Walter Boys and appeared as Karen in the short-lived series Dead Boy Detectives. However, her breakout role came in Yellowjackets, a gripping Showtime drama about the survivors of a 1996 plane crash. In the show, Mya portrayed Gen, a member of a girls’ soccer team, and gained significant recognition.

A Dream Role in Action Movies

When it comes to her aspirations, Mya dreams of starring in an action movie. She draws inspiration from Carmen Cortez, the character played by Alexa Vega in the Spy Kids franchise. Mya reminisced about reenacting scenes from Spy Kids with her neighbor when she was younger and expressed her enthusiasm for being part of a spy story someday. “That would be amazing,” she said.

Mya is also a huge fan of Michelle Yeoh, the talented actress from Everything Everywhere All At Once. She admires Yeoh’s incredible career and the variety of roles she has taken on, especially her ability to perform her own stunts. “I’d love to do something like that,” Mya remarked, clearly inspired by Yeoh’s versatility and talent.
