Duolingo, the beloved language-learning app, has rolled out some exciting new features to enhance the learning experience. The latest update introduces Adventures and Video Calls, both designed to make language practice more engaging and interactive.

Adventures

The Adventures feature offers a game-like experience where users can explore various settings and storylines within the Duolingo universe. Players join two characters, Lily and Oscar, as they navigate simulated real-world scenarios that aim to improve language skills. Currently, each course unit has one adventure available, but it’s limited to English speakers learning French and Spanish speakers learning English for now. Duolingo plans to expand this feature to more languages in the coming weeks and months.

Video Calls

Another innovative addition is the Video Call feature, which utilizes artificial intelligence to help users practice conversational skills in a pressure-free environment. This feature allows users to make video calls to the character Lily, simulating natural dialogue as if they were conversing with a real person. Some users have reported that the Video Call option is already available in the app, although the Adventures feature has yet to appear.

Musical Collaboration

Additionally, Duolingo has partnered with Loog, a manufacturer of portable instruments, to launch a new three-octave electric piano that complements the Duolingo Music course. Priced at $249, this device is available for preorder, with shipments expected to start in November.

Overall, these updates reinforce Duolingo’s position as one of the top language learning apps, enhancing user engagement and offering new ways to practice language skills. They also seem to help offset some user complaints about the app’s recent icon redesign, which many found less appealing. With these new features, Duolingo continues to evolve and meet the needs of its users!
