Microsoft to invest $1.3 billion in AI and digital infrastructure, aiming to train 5 million in Mexico

During the Microsoft AI Tour 2024 in Mexico City, Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced that Microsoft will invest $1.3 billion over the next three years to enhance cloud and AI infrastructure in Mexico. This investment will support the country’s digital transformation, focusing on skilling programs and improving connectivity, with the goal of fostering inclusive growth.

One of the key initiatives is the Artificial Intelligence National Skills Program, which aims to provide AI skills training to 5 million people in Mexico, promoting workforce readiness in AI technology. The investment also includes projects to help small and medium-sized businesses adopt AI and improve operational efficiency, accelerating Mexico’s integration into the global AI-driven economy.

Highlighting Microsoft’s 38-year presence in Mexico, Nadella emphasized the importance of AI in creating economic growth and improving human productivity. Notable companies such as Grupo Bimbo, Tec de Monterrey, and Cemex have already embraced Microsoft’s AI solutions to enhance learning and business operations.

The investment aligns with Microsoft’s global sustainability efforts, as well as its goals of increasing digital literacy and addressing challenges in health, connectivity, and environmental sustainability in Mexico.

“Microsoft’s investments in AI infrastructure and skilling in Mexico will ensure that people and organizations across the country realize the benefits of this technology shift,” said Nadella.
