Apple has just rolled out iOS 18, and it comes packed with exciting features, the standout being Apple Intelligence. But that’s not all! This update also introduces new customization tools that let you personalize your home screen, including the highly anticipated ability to change app icon appearances.
What’s New in Home Screen Customization?
While iPhones have had some customization options before, iOS 18 takes it up a notch. You can now change the colors of your app icons, adding a fun personal touch that wasn’t possible before. Here’s a simple guide on how to do it.
How to Change App Icon Colors in iOS 18
You have two main ways to adjust your icons in iOS 18:
- Automatic Appearance: Icons can change based on the time of day.
- Tint Options: You can add vibrant colors to the icons to match your style or mood.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Start by pressing and holding an empty spot on your home screen until the icons start to jiggle. This puts you in Edit mode.
Step 2: Look for the Edit icon in the top-left corner and tap it.
Step 3: Select Customize from the menu that appears.
Step 4: To make your icons adjust with the time of day, tap on Automatic.
Step 5: You can also choose Dark for consistently dark icons, or Light for light icons around the clock.
Step 6: Next to these options, you’ll find Tinted. Tap it to pick a color for your app icons. You can use a slider to choose the exact color and adjust its intensity.
Step 7: If you want your icon colors to match your wallpaper, use the eyedropper tool to select a color directly from your background.
Step 8: Another customization option is to change the size of your icons. While in Edit mode, toggle Large to make the icons bigger (the labels underneath will disappear). Tap Small to return to the standard size.
And that’s it! While iOS 18’s icon customization might not offer as many options as Android, it adds a fun layer to making your iPhone feel uniquely yours. Now you know how to give your home screen a fresh look!
