Schlumberger, a global leader in the energy industry, has announced its collaboration with NVIDIA to accelerate the development of generative AI solutions, aiming to optimize efficiency across subsurface exploration, production operations, and data management. This partnership will introduce industry-specific AI models tailored to the needs of the energy sector, enhancing operational capabilities while minimizing environmental impact.
A focal point of this collaboration is Schlumberger’s digital platforms, including the Delfi digital platform and the Lumi data and AI platform. The Lumi platform is designed to transform raw data into actionable insights for energy domain professionals. With this new partnership, Schlumberger will leverage NVIDIA NeMo, part of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software suite, to develop AI that can function across data centers, cloud environments, or at the edge. This will provide greater flexibility and scale for energy-related AI applications.
The partnership between Schlumberger and NVIDIA dates back to 2008 when they first worked together on deploying GPUs to solve complex energy challenges. With the current deal, Schlumberger aims to apply NeMo’s capabilities to improve processes and energy supply management, particularly in clean energy innovation. CEO Olivier Le Peuch emphasized that the collaboration will empower customers to optimize operations and reduce carbon footprints.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang added that the custom models developed through the partnership would provide scientists and engineers unprecedented insights to better manage energy supplies. By harnessing generative AI, the collaboration aims to unlock innovations that can contribute to cleaner energy solutions.
The initiative not only highlights the increasing role of AI in the energy sector but also reflects Schlumberger’s ongoing commitment to utilizing advanced technologies to address both current energy demands and the environmental challenges of the future.
