Bose has introduced its new Smart Soundbar, designed to elevate the home audio experience with a unique feature: the ability to use its Ultra Open Earbuds as rear speakers. This latest addition to Bose’s lineup aims to provide users with an enhanced, personalized surround sound experience, setting a new standard for home audio systems.
The Bose Smart Soundbar, slated for release this fall for $499, boasts a sleek and compact design with a range of advanced audio technologies. It features five transducers: two side-firing racetrack-shaped drivers, a center tweeter, and two up-firing transducers. This configuration is optimized for Dolby Atmos content, with side-facing drivers handling horizontal audio and upward-facing drivers creating an overhead sound effect. The center tweeter focuses on delivering clear dialog.
For content that does not support Dolby Atmos, the soundbar employs TrueSpace technology to simulate a surround sound effect in real-time, aiming to offer a spacious audio experience comparable to Dolby Atmos.
A standout feature of the Smart Soundbar is its integration with Bose’s Ultra Open Earbuds. Priced at $299, these clip-on earbuds, which do not cover the ears, can be used as rear speakers to create a more immersive sound experience. The Personal Surround Sound feature, available initially with the Smart Soundbar and later with the Smart Ultra Soundbar, enhances the spatial audio experience by using the earbuds to add dimension and depth to the audio.
The soundbar also includes AI Dialogue Mode, a feature from Bose’s Smart Ultra Soundbar. This mode uses artificial intelligence to automatically adjust the audio mix when speech is detected, ensuring that voices are clear without diminishing the impact of immersive sound effects.
The Bose Smart Soundbar measures 27 inches in length, 2.2 inches in height, and 4.1 inches in depth. It comes in a black matte finish with a wraparound metal grille. Connectivity options include HDMI eARC and standard optical cables, and the soundbar is compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa. It can also be integrated with other Bose smart speakers for a more comprehensive multi-room audio setup.
