Apple’s latest iOS 18 update is bringing remarkable enhancements to AirPods Pro 2, both Lightning and USB-C models. This year’s update not only expands the functionality of AirPods but also introduces several advanced features that enhance user experience, with more expected later this fall when Apple rolls out its AirPods hearing aid functionality.
One notable addition is the new active noise cancellation designed specifically for voice calls. Unlike traditional ANC, which reduces external noise for listening, this feature focuses on minimizing background sounds around you while speaking. This means less interference from wind, traffic, or construction noise during calls, making your voice clearer to the listener.
The update also enhances Adaptive Audio controls. Previously, users could only toggle this feature on or off. Now, a slider allows users to adjust the level of noise that Adaptive Audio permits. The settings include default, less noise, and more noise options, giving you greater control over the ambient sounds you want to hear while still benefiting from the adaptive nature of the feature.
Siri interactions have also been upgraded. You can now manage calls and notifications through head gestures, such as nodding or shaking your head. This hands-free functionality is particularly useful in situations where using voice commands is impractical, like when handling sensitive tasks or in noisy environments.
For gamers, the update brings Personalized Spatial Audio to gaming applications. This technology, previously available only for media consumption, now supports 3D sound and head tracking in games. This could enhance gameplay by providing more immersive audio experiences and improving situational awareness.
Additionally, the update addresses latency issues with wireless headphones. The new AirPods software significantly reduces audio lag, which is crucial for fast-paced games where even minor delays can affect performance. This improvement is expected to be particularly beneficial for gamers who rely on precise audio cues.
