Strands is the newest daily puzzle from the New York Times, offering a fresh twist on the classic word search. In this game, you’ll need sharp observation skills to uncover hidden theme words, and solving it can be quite the challenge.
How to play NYT Strands
The objective of Strands is to find the “theme words” concealed within a grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words, and you double-tap the last letter to confirm a word. Theme words will be highlighted in blue once found.
If you find a non-theme word, it still benefits your progress! For every three non-theme words (at least four letters long), you earn a hint where one of the letters of a theme word is revealed. All the letters on the grid are part of the theme words, and none overlap, meaning each letter is only used once.
The special highlight of each puzzle is the spangram—a word that describes the puzzle’s theme and stretches across opposite sides of the grid, highlighted in yellow when discovered.
