In a critical move to safeguard mental health, social media giants Meta, TikTok, and Snap have pledged to participate in a global program aimed at curbing suicide and self-harm content on their platforms. The initiative, backed by international mental health organizations, seeks to reduce the harmful impact of such content, particularly on younger audiences who are vulnerable to mental health struggles.
The program, set to roll out in the coming months, will involve a combination of advanced content moderation technologies and partnerships with mental health experts. The companies will focus on quickly identifying and removing harmful posts, while also providing users with resources and support for those in crisis. The initiative comes amid growing concerns about the negative effects of social media on mental health, particularly the role platforms play in spreading harmful content.

TikTok and Snap echoed similar sentiments, both highlighting the use of artificial intelligence to detect harmful content and the importance of providing real-time support for at-risk users.
