Avis has confirmed a data breach that occurred between August 3 and August 6, impacting customer data. The breach was discovered on August 5, and an “unauthorized third party” gained access to one of Avis’s business applications, obtaining sensitive and personally identifiable information.

While Avis has stated that the breach involved some personally identifiable information (PII), specifics beyond customer names have not been disclosed. The company is working with authorities and cybersecurity experts to address the incident and has implemented additional safeguards to strengthen their security measures.

Avis is offering affected customers a one-year membership for credit monitoring through Equifax, with codes redeemable until December 31. Customers are advised to review their account statements and credit history for any unauthorized activity and remain vigilant for potential phishing attempts, scams, and identity theft.

To protect against further risks, it is recommended that individuals update their passwords with secure alternatives and enable two-factor authentication.
