Tottenham Hotspur showed a strong interest in signing Patrick Dorgu, a promising young left-back from Lecce, during the recent transfer window. However, they couldn’t complete the move because Lecce’s asking price for Dorgu was quite high.
Dorgu, who recently scored his first goal for Denmark, has been on the radar of several top clubs, including Tottenham and Chelsea. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both clubs were interested in the 19-year-old this summer but were deterred by Lecce’s demand for €30-35 million (about $33-38 million).
Despite the failed deal, Tottenham is still keeping an eye on Dorgu. The North London club, which already has Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie in their squad, didn’t finalize the transfer due to Lecce’s steep price. However, they could potentially revisit the idea of signing Dorgu in future transfer windows.
Romano shared on YouTube, “Tottenham and Chelsea both had their sights set on Dorgu, but Lecce’s price was too high. They value him highly, which is why they set such a high asking price.”
Tottenham’s current transfer strategy focuses on acquiring young talent with potential, making Dorgu a possible future replacement for Ben Davies. Nevertheless, they will need to negotiate a better deal to secure his transfer in the future, especially with Chelsea still interested.
For now, Lecce’s valuation of Dorgu remains the main obstacle, but Tottenham is not giving up on the talented left-back just yet.
