Mike Tyson, the iconic boxer who has been mostly retired since 2005, was set to make a highly anticipated return to the ring in 2024. The 57-year-old Tyson planned to face off against Jake Paul in July, but a health scare in late May raised concerns about his ability to compete.
On May 26, while on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson experienced a “medical episode” about 30 minutes before landing. He became nauseous and dizzy, prompting a call for medical assistance. According to Tyson’s representative, the episode was due to an ulcer flare-up. Although it was initially described as a “medical emergency,” it wasn’t serious enough to cancel the upcoming fight.
Medical staff aboard the flight attended to Tyson, and paramedics rushed to assist him upon landing. Tyson’s representative reported that he was in intense pain during the incident but has since made a full recovery. Tyson expressed appreciation for the medical staff who helped him, reassuring fans that he is “doing great” just days after the episode.
The health scare was a minor setback, and Tyson remains on track for his match against Jake Paul. This fight, scheduled to be released on Netflix in mid-July, is highly anticipated as it marks Tyson’s first professional bout since 2005. His last appearance in the ring was during an exhibition match in 2020.
