An Apple TV Plus app for Android devices could soon become a reality, according to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The report highlights a job listing from Apple seeking an “Android Software Engineer – Apple TV app,” indicating the company’s interest in expanding its services to a broader range of devices. This move aligns with Apple’s strategy to reach more users and make its content accessible across various platforms.
The job description suggests that the engineer will lead the development of new features for the Apple TV app, which currently hosts a wide range of content, including original TV shows, movies, documentaries, and live sports events. Apple TV Plus has been available on first-party devices like iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV streaming boxes, as well as on third-party devices such as smart TVs, streaming players, and gaming consoles.
Expanding the availability of Apple TV Plus to Android devices would significantly increase its reach, allowing users of devices from Google, Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus, and others to access the streaming service. This move would follow the playbook of other streaming services like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Peacock, which offer apps for various platforms to cater to a wider audience.
While the job listing hints at sports content, it remains to be seen if the recently launched Sports app will also make its way to Android devices. Apple may prioritize revenue-generating services like Apple TV Plus and Fitness Plus for expansion to non-Apple platforms.
Apple has not provided official comment on the potential release of an Apple TV Plus app for Android, but the move would undoubtedly be a significant step in expanding the availability of its content to a broader audience.
