The prospect of Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine was thrilling enough for fans, but it seems the film is aiming to rival Avengers: Endgame in its cameo department. However, unlike Endgame, not all the special appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine are from familiar Marvel characters.

When the official trailer for the film dropped, fans with sharp eyes wasted no time spotting numerous Easter eggs and nods to the comic books. While this alone was enough to excite superhero enthusiasts, it turns out there’s something in the movie for sports fans too, especially those who have been following Ryan Reynolds’ involvement as co-owner of Wrexham A.F.C. in the docu-series Welcome to Wrexham.

Shortly after the trailer’s release, a keen-eyed fan of the football club, known on Twitter as Beardy (@beardywxm), spotted someone in the background who bore a striking resemblance to soccer player Ollie Palmer. Palmer, who joined Wrexham in 2022, has been a prominent figure in the FX show, which has thrust the club and its players into the spotlight. With Palmer’s growing familiarity with cameras, it begs the question: is he ready to step into the MCU?

It seems Ollie Palmer indeed makes a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. After a fan noticed him in the background of a scene, wearing a white shirt and denim jacket, members of a podcast dedicated to Wrexham A.F.C. corroborated the sighting on Twitter. They shared a still from the scene featuring the striker, along with an Instagram comment from Palmer himself. His comment, “If you squint…”, was posted after Reynolds shared the film’s trailer on Instagram, hinting at the player’s cameo.

Deadpool himself added fuel to the speculation, acknowledging fans’ keen eyesight. While this could be dismissed as Reynolds’ playful banter, the podcast team later confirmed with a fan that Palmer had indeed confirmed the cameo when asked about it.

With Ollie Palmer joining Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine, this marks the second project where the two share the screen. Now, the question remains whether Reynolds considered his fellow Wrexham co-owner and actor, Rob McElhenney, for a cameo as well. At the very least, fans can anticipate seeing them together again in Welcome to Wrexham season 3.
