On Tuesday morning, April 16, the music world was rocked by news of GloRilla’s arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) in Suwanee, Georgia. The rapper, known legally as Gloria Hallelujah Woods, found herself in legal trouble after an encounter with law enforcement during a traffic stop.
According to reports from TMZ, GloRilla was apprehended on suspicion of DUI, as well as for consuming or possessing an open alcoholic beverage container, and a separate traffic charge. The incident occurred in Suwanee, a suburb located about 30 minutes outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
Details from the police report, as revealed by TMZ, paint a concerning picture. Allegedly, officers detected the scent of marijuana and alcohol emanating from GloRilla’s vehicle during the traffic stop, which took place just after 4 a.m. ET. Additionally, the report indicates that GloRilla admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening, although she claimed she was capable of driving. Furthermore, it was noted that GloRilla’s breast was exposed at some point during the exchange, prompting officers to inform her of the situation.
Subsequent to the encounter, GloRilla was taken into custody shortly after 6 a.m. ET on Tuesday and later released on bond, according to TMZ.
In the wake of these developments, Billboard reached out to both the Suwanee Police Department and a representative for GloRilla for confirmation and further comment. However, as of now, there has been no official response from either party.
Despite the legal troubles, GloRilla has maintained an active presence on social media, primarily focusing on the promotion of her latest song, “Wanna Be,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, from her new mixtape, “Ehhthang Ehhthang.” Notably, GloRilla is scheduled to join Megan Thee Stallion on the Hot Girl Summer Tour, slated to commence next month in Minneapolis.
In addition to her music endeavors, GloRilla has been making headlines for her ongoing feud with City Girls rapper JT, sparked by the mention of JT in the lyrics of her track “Aite” from the “Ehhthang Ehhthang” mixtape. However, during an interview with Billboard News on the 2024 CMT Music Awards red carpet, GloRilla downplayed the drama, stating, “Everything just always everything… Everything is everything.”
As the situation unfolds, fans and industry observers await further updates and developments regarding GloRilla’s legal proceedings and response to the arrest.
