Dev Patel dedicated a significant portion of his career, spanning a decade, to the creation of Monkey Man, a gripping action thriller in which he also takes on the lead role. Since its premiere at SXSW last month, the film has garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. When questioned about the possibility of a sequel to Monkey Man, Dev Patel remained open to the idea, although he emphasized his intention not to get ahead of himself.
Will we ever get a Monkey Man sequel?
Speaking with Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of Monkey Man, Dev Patel shared his perspective on the potential for a sequel, expressing caution against prematurely jumping into future projects. He stated, “I’m trying not to get ahead of myself. I know this sounds like a cliché, but just to … birth this little thing, it’s been a huge undertaking. This is all a dream come true.”

Monkey Man, besides featuring Dev Patel in a leading role, also stars Vipin Sharma, who portrays the character of Alpha, a trans woman, in the film. In discussing the film’s emphasis on representation, Patel emphasized its significance, stating, “For me, this is an anthem for the underdogs, the voiceless and the marginalized. Together they wage this war for the good and the just, and for me, I really wanted to include the hijra community, the third gender in India.”
In addition to Dev Patel, Monkey Man boasts a talented ensemble cast including Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikander Kher, Makarand Deshpande, Pitobash, and Vipin Sharma. The film’s official synopsis teases a gripping narrative, stating, “After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”
Monkey Man hit theaters on April 5, inviting audiences into a thrilling and thought-provoking cinematic experience that showcases Dev Patel’s commitment to storytelling and representation on the big screen.
