Bhutan is quietly reshaping its Bitcoin strategy. The country has moved more funds this month. And the pattern is becoming hard to ignore.
Bhutan Bitcoin transfers signal active strategy
Fresh data from Arkham shows that Bhutan shifted around 519.7 BTC on Wednesday. The value stands close to $36.7 million. The funds were sent to two different wallets.
One of these wallets is reportedly linked to QCP Capital. This detail has caught market attention.
This is not a one-off move. It is the third major Bitcoin transfer by Bhutan in March. Earlier, nearly $72 million worth of BTC was moved in just 24 hours before March 18. Another $11.8 million transfer happened on March 9.
The transactions look planned. Funds are being routed through multiple wallets. The timing is tight. This suggests a coordinated strategy rather than random selling.
Bhutan Bitcoin holdings drop sharply in recent months
March activity has already crossed February levels. Last month, Bhutan moved just over 284 BTC. That number looks small compared to current outflows.
Even after these transfers, Bhutan still holds about 4,453 BTC. This is worth roughly $315 million. But the bigger picture tells a different story.
Back in October 2024, Bhutan held more than 13,000 BTC. The drop since then is significant.
Despite this decline, Bhutan remains one of the largest Bitcoin-holding nations. As per Arkham data, it ranked fifth globally as of March 12. It stands behind the United States, the United Kingdom, El Salvador, and the United Arab Emirates.
Bhutan Bitcoin mining and long term crypto plans
Bhutan is not stepping away from crypto. It is adjusting its approach.
The country entered Bitcoin mining in 2019. It used its natural advantage. Hydropower from glacial rivers provides cheap and clean energy.
Its sovereign fund, Druk Holding and Investments, partnered with Bitdeer in May 2023. The deal was worth $500 million. The goal was simple. Expand mining capacity.
Bhutan is also linking Bitcoin to real world development. One major example is the Gelephu Mindfulness City project. The country plans to use crypto reserves to support it.
In early 2026, Bhutan confirmed plans to build a strategic crypto reserve. This will not be limited to Bitcoin. It will also include Ethereum and BNB.
