Steam has quietly added 10 new free to play games to its store. The additions give players more options to try new titles without spending any money. The update has drawn attention mainly because it includes Highguard, a game that has already sparked debate among players.
Steam remains the biggest digital platform for PC gaming. New games arrive on the service almost every day. In 2025 alone, more than 20,000 titles were added to the store. Alongside major releases and sales, free games play a big role in keeping the platform popular.
The latest group of free titles covers many genres. Players can jump into Chicken Fren for a relaxed idle experience. Fortress Fury focuses on tower defense with roguelite elements. Glassy Stare offers a darker visual novel style story. Other new options include Knockoff, Potion Knight, Terminal Lucidity, Truckin’ It, Where We Went, and SEGA Football Club Champions. All of these games can be downloaded and played for free, though some include optional in game purchases.
Highguard is easily the most talked about release in the group. The game was revealed during The Game Awards 2025 and comes from developers who previously worked on Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It is a PvP raid shooter that mixes ideas from tactical and fast paced shooters. Early Steam reviews have been mostly negative, but many players say it is still worth trying due to its gameplay ideas.
Other games in the lineup may appeal to different audiences. Fortress Fury challenges players to upgrade defenses and survive enemy waves. Truckin’ It is built around online co op and focuses on fast deliveries and teamwork. Potion Knight takes a more unusual approach with a first person shooter design. Puzzle fans may enjoy Terminal Lucidity and Where We Went. Sports fans can try SEGA Football Club Champions, which lets players manage a soccer team, though its reviews are also mixed.
Steam is not the only place offering free games right now. Epic Games Store continues its weekly giveaways. Players can currently claim Rustler for free until January 29 at 11:00 a.m. EST. After that, Definitely Not Fried Chicken will be available at no cost until February 5.
With more free games arriving regularly, players have plenty of options to explore without opening their wallets.
