Apple is quietly working on a new pair of AirPods Pro. This part is not surprising at all. What is surprising is the timing. New leaks suggest these earbuds will launch in 2026, not anytime soon.
These will not replace the current AirPods Pro 3. Instead, Apple plans to sell them alongside the existing model. Think of them as a more expensive and more advanced option for users who want the best Apple can offer.
Since Apple is expected to charge more, the company clearly needs strong reasons to justify the price. According to analyst Ming Chi Kuo and leaker Instant Digital, Apple is planning some major upgrades. These include advanced gesture controls and a brand new H3 chip.
The biggest change could be in how you control the earbuds. Reports suggest Apple is testing infrared cameras built into the AirPods. These cameras would read hand and finger gestures. This means users could control music, calls, and other actions without touching the earbuds at all.
If this feature arrives, Apple may remove the current pressure sensors completely. Gesture control could become the only way to interact with the earbuds. This would be a bold move since many users are already used to swiping and squeezing the stems.
Another major upgrade is the rumored H3 chip. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is developing its next generation audio chip right now. It is not confirmed which product will get it first. It could power future AirPods, AirPods Max, or this premium AirPods Pro model.
Pricing is another interesting point. Right now, there is a big gap in Apple’s audio lineup. AirPods Pro 3 are priced at $249. AirPods Max cost $549. A premium AirPods Pro priced between $349 and $399 would fit perfectly in the middle.
This strategy would give Apple a strong option for users who want better features without jumping all the way to over ear headphones.
If these leaks are accurate, there is still a long wait ahead. Apple usually launches new AirPods in the second half of the year. With a 2026 release window, official details may take time to surface.
For now, it looks like Apple is preparing a new tier of AirPods. One that focuses on futuristic controls, stronger performance, and a higher price to match.
