Star Trek has always pushed boundaries. That is nothing new. Whoopi Goldberg knows this better than most.
Recently, a clip from the upcoming series Star Trek Starfleet Academy sparked backlash online. The scene featured Gina Yashere, Holly Hunter, and Tricia Black as Starfleet officers. One user mocked the show and said they would root for the Enterprise to be destroyed if forced to watch it.
Elon Musk jumped into the conversation. He made a comment about the actors’ appearances. The remark quickly spread. White House policy adviser Stephen Miller also chimed in. He mocked the show and suggested handing creative control back to William Shatner.
Whoopi Goldberg did not stay silent. On the January 21 episode of The View, she responded directly. She reminded everyone what Star Trek has always stood for.
She said people complain about the show being woke. Then she added a sharp line. If you were never asleep, you cannot be woke.
Goldberg explained that Star Trek was created to show different beings learning how to live together. That was Gene Roddenberry’s vision from the start. Inclusion was always the point.
She also questioned why people were so focused on attacking a TV show. She pointed to real world problems instead. People going hungry. Kids missing meals. Farmers losing their land. Violence everywhere.
She made it clear. Star Trek is not the problem.
So far, neither Musk nor Miller has responded to her comments.
