Elon Musk’s X has finally explained how posts appear in the For You feed. The company has shared its algorithm publicly to show how content is picked and ranked. This is meant to bring more transparency to how the platform works.
X says the feed is no longer driven by fixed rules. It now relies heavily on its own AI model called Grok. The system scans over 100 million posts. It then narrows them down to around 1,500 posts. These are the ones users actually see.
How X uses Grok AI to build your For You feed
The process starts with understanding the user. X looks at the accounts a person follows. It tracks likes, replies, reposts, and clicks. This data helps build a clear picture of what the user cares about.
Next, the system pulls posts from people the user follows. It also brings in posts from accounts the user does not follow. These are selected using AI that matches content to the user’s interests.
X then adds more details to each post. This includes whether the user has X Premium. It checks if the post is paywalled. It looks at video quality and other signals. Duplicate posts are removed. Old content is filtered out. Posts with muted words are excluded.
How posts are ranked and shown on X
Grok then steps in to rank everything. The AI predicts how likely a user is to engage with each post. It checks chances of likes, replies, reposts, and clicks. Posts expected to perform well are ranked higher. Less relevant content is pushed down.
Once ranking is complete, the For You feed is created. A final check is done before showing posts. Deleted content is removed. Spam is filtered out. Violent or unsafe posts are blocked.
X says this is how every For You feed is built today. The company hopes that sharing this process helps users better understand why they see what they see on the platform.
