Stranger Things is almost over, with only one episode left before the series ends for good. Episodes five to eight of the final season dropped on Christmas Day, giving fans plenty to talk about.
One of the main storylines involved Nancy and Jonathan. In a tense scene, Jonathan asked Nancy not to marry him, and she agreed, even though they both tearfully said they still loved each other. Later, it turned out they weren’t in immediate danger, but the question remained: what about their relationship?
The Duffer brothers have now confirmed that this is a breakup. Matt Duffer told People magazine, “That’s a breakup. They are broken up.” He explained that the writers felt Nancy needed to be independent and have a chance to find herself. Ross Duffer added that the pair’s relationship was really a “trauma bond.”
With just one episode left, fans will soon see how Stranger Things ties up Nancy and Jonathan’s story and what comes next for them as singles. The finale is set to air on New Year’s Day.
