A CTA Yellow Line train rammed into a piece of snow removal equipment on the tracks at the Howard rail yard in Rogers Park, which injured thirty-eight people and twenty-three of them were rushed to hospital.
As the train passed through the rail yard close to the Howard Street terminal above Howard and Paulina streets, the crash occurred around 10.30 am, as per the Chicago Transit Authority officials. The two-car Yellow Line-Skokie Swift train was headed inbound from Skokie at the time and it hit a piece of snow removal equipment.
The Fire Department shared that there were present around 31 passengers and 7 CTA employees on train, and all of them were injured. At one time, more than 15 ambulances were called at the site to treat the injured.
“Our thoughts are with all affected and we are grateful for our brave first responders on the scene,” stated Mayor Brandon Johnson. He added that they are working closely with the emergency services as they monitor the incident.
Just before 10:45 a.m., a two-car Skokie Swift train traveling southbound encountered a CTA snow removal vehicle traveling in the same direction. They subsequently collided, resulting in 38 injuries, 23 of whom were transported to the hospital.

The CTA is yet to explain why the machine was on the same track as the train. When questioned about it, Jurewics said it was “a question for CTA.”
