Ben Foakes who is in the 15-men squad of England in the ongoing Test series between Indian and England speaks up on not getting a chance in the playing eleven. The wicketkeeper-batsman admitted that he feels frustrated while sitting out for two years. Ben Foakes lost his place to Jos Buttler in the squad who is incredibly good according to England.
He even scored a hundred in his debut and was the highest run-getter against Sri Lanka in the 2018 series. After that, the 27-year old just played two Test matches and yet looking for his place in the squad. However, he praised Jos for his performance in recent times and also lauded the seniors of the team.
“Yeah, of course, you want to play, and it has been frustrating. But Jos has done such an amazing job over those two years. So, it’s one of those situations where it’s very understandable. It’s just trying to prepare for if and when there is an opportunity which obviously there isn’t,” Ben Foakes said in a virtual media interaction.
Ben Foakes last played Test cricket against West Indies in January 2019 for his team England. The wicketkeeper-batsman is looking forward to making most of the opportunity he will be getting in the second Test match against India that is starting from 13 February.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since my last one[Test]. So yeah, been around the group a bit, have felt involved, but not played for a while. So yeah, a bit of excitement going around at the moment. I’d love to make an impact, obviously. But I haven’t played for a while, I am just trying to do everything I can to help myself get into a good position to do well, and hopefully, I’d be able to contribute,” Ben Foakes added.
