The domestic response of the Russian nation to Oscar<\/a>-winning film Mr. Nobody Against Putin<\/a> is just a bright example of how the state sovereignty and media regulation and political narration meet again at the turn points of the war time, which signifies that the film has more than cinematic value.<\/p>\n

Directed with Pavel Talankin<\/a>, the documentary claims to provide visual evidence in a school in the Chelyabinsk region which is supposed to show how children are being indoctrinated with state ideology. Its weakening moment, a victory at the Academy Awards<\/a>, has increased its exposure, thus making it more scrutinized in the realms of the Russian domestic life.<\/p>\n

This is the pose taken by the submission of the formal request to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences<\/a> and UNESCO<\/a>, which indicates that Russia is prepared to negotiate with other global organizations over the issues about which the country sees itself as defining, that is, the protection of minors and the ethical use of the recorded material, hence, supporting one of the main principles of the Russian political discourse on cultural products that are active within the limits of the federal law.<\/p>\n

This strategy is also reflected in the fact that the Kremlin had stated that it had not seen the film, which has been accompanied by a less demonstrative commentary, which allows the officials to avoid committing themselves to the assertions of the documentary without losing the focus on the formal processes and the lawful boundaries; this position would also avoid direct conflict with the narrative.<\/p>\n

At home, this defensive stance might appeal to those sections of the population that place greater value on stability, the authority of the institution, and the maintenance of national identity; the message conveyed in the documentary film, under this system of interpretation, is less significant than the rule to which all foreign actors must conform without attempting to create images of Russian society themselves.<\/p>\n
