French President Emmanuel Macron<\/a><\/span><\/span> warned that threats against Cyprus<\/span><\/span> represent a broader security challenge for Europe as he visited the Mediterranean island following drone attacks linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The visit highlighted growing European concern over regional instability and the safety of global maritime trade routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz<\/a><\/span><\/span>, a critical energy corridor.<\/p>\n

Macron delivered a strong message of European solidarity during his meetings with Cypriot officials, framing the incident as not merely a regional security issue but a matter affecting the entire European Union. \u201cWhen Cyprus is attacked, it is Europe that is attacked,\u201d Macron said during his visit, emphasizing the strategic significance of the island and Europe\u2019s commitment to defend its member states.<\/p>\n

The remarks came after a suspected Iranian-linked drone strike targeted the British Royal Air Force<\/a> base at Akrotiri on the southern coast of Cyprus.
