These long-standing strategic relationships are between Russia and Iran<\/a> and they have become significantly stronger over the past years, particularly under the conditions of the changing geopolitical correlations and the Western sanctions. The two countries have increased their cooperation in the areas of energy, defence and regional security which have led to the signing of a strategic partnership treaty in the year 2025, which is<\/a> supposed to formalise and strengthen the military and economic cooperation<\/a> between the two nations. During the ongoing military action of Moscow in Ukraine, the support of Tehran has been one of the most reliable allies of Russia, thus strengthening the strong and practical alliance reported by both governments.<\/p>\n

In this developing alliance, Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> has always been focusing on the preservation and strengthening of ties with Tehran. Those who<\/a> observe will say that Putin<\/a> has tried to establish Russia as a trustworthy strategic partner to Iran<\/a> especially in times when both countries face increased international isolation. His foreign policy and rhetorical pronouncements have often stressed on the respect and long-term collaboration between the two nations.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the Kremlin<\/a> posted a letter sent by the President Putin<\/a> to the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/a> after the alleged murder of the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei<\/a> in attacks supposedly orchestrated by the United States and Israel<\/a>. In his letter, President Putin said that he was deeply saddened by the murder, and described the act as being cynical and a violation of every standard of humanity and international law.<\/p>\n

According to President Putin, Khamenei<\/a> would be remembered as an excellent statesman who<\/a> contributed to the establishment of friendly relations between Russia and Iran on a personal scale in an enormous way. He also asked President Pezeshkian to express his deepest sorrow and condolence to the family and family of the Supreme Leader, the government and the rest of the Iranian people.<\/p>\n

Moscow previously condemned the United States-Israeli attacks as a life-threatening adventure, which could lead the region to its downfall. Russian Foreign Ministry<\/a> made further appeals to restraint and threatened to cause more destabilisation in the Middle East. On Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov<\/a> had a telephone talk with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi<\/a> and Moscow reported that the Iranian side had initiated the call.<\/p>\n
