Messages claiming the second wave has arisen due to the testing of 5G mobile towers are false, says DoT

DoT, on Monday, clarifies that the messages claiming 5G trials are responsible for the second wave of COVID-19 in India are absolutely rubbish.

As the Telecom companies have been given approval to conduct 5G trials in the country, there has been a flood of messages on social media platforms claiming that the second wave of the Covid-19 has sprung up due to the trials. In order to clarify the same, the DoT has come up with a statement that those messages are completely false.

“It has come to notice of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that several misleading messages are being circulated on various social media platforms claiming that the second wave of Coronavirus has been caused by the testing of 5G mobile towers. These messages are false”, says DoT; as quoted by ANI.

Although, on the 5th of May, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has shown a green light to the telecom companies, Reliance jio, Airtel, MTNL, etc, for the commencement of 5G trials. None of the companies is allowed to make use of Chinese technology.

In addition to this, the list of telecom gear makers sanctioned to conduct 5G trials includes, Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson, C-DOT, and Reliance Jio’s indigenously developed technologies as Chinese technology has brushed aside from the trials.

Furthermore, earlier, Bharti Airtel, as well as Vodafone Idea, had submitted a proposal to DoT according to which, they had sought permission to use China’s Huawei technology to conduct trials. But later, they also submitted the application specifying that the 5G trials will be conducted keeping aside Chinese technology.
