Chinese smartphone manufacturer One Plus has increased the prices of several of its smart television models in India. The amount of price increased varies according to different models of smart TVs launched by the company, with some variants witnessing the highest price rise of over 17.5% from the earlier rates.
The BBK electronics-owned One Plus has not issued any clarification on the reason for the increase in TV prices in the country. However, it is speculated that the increase in prices of cell panels, which are used in the manufacturing of TVs coupled with rising costs of importing the necessary materials for production are to be blamed for the increase in TV prices.
Moreover, a global shortage of semiconductor chips has badly affected the production of all electronic gadgets including smart TVs. According to a report by CNBC, South Korean tech conglomerate Samsung has also been affected by the shortage, affecting the company’s television and appliance production.
The OnePlus TV U1S series, launched in India on June 10, has witnessed a massive price hike. The prices of three size variants of the series- 50 inch, 55 inches, and 65 inches have increased by Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000, and Rs 6,000 respectively. The latest retail price of these models are-
50 inches- Rs 46,999
