Elden Ring, the critically acclaimed open-world action RPG released in 2022, has captivated gamers with its challenging gameplay, intricate lore, and breathtaking world. Now, after nearly two years, developer FromSoftware has officially announced a major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, set to be released on June 21st, 2024.
Unlike the smaller Colosseum update released last year, Shadow of the Erdtree promises a substantial addition to the Elden Ring experience. Players can expect a brand-new map, separate from the familiar Lands Between, shrouded in the “shadow of the Erdtree.” This new land teems with fresh lore and challenges, offering seasoned Tarnished a chance to explore uncharted territories and face formidable new adversaries.
The expansion trailer, unveiled in February, provided a glimpse into the intriguing themes and characters awaiting players. Familiar faces like Malenia’s brother Miquella appear alongside enigmatic new figures like the villainous Mesmer. The trailer also confirms the presence of previously speculated bosses like Mohg, further fueling excitement among veteran players.
Adding to the intrigue, director Hidetaka Miyazaki has hinted at the possibility of further DLCs. When questioned about the future of the Elden Ring saga, he stated, “We don’t want to say this is the end…” This enigmatic statement leaves the door open for further expansions, potentially expanding upon the game’s vast lore and enriching the world of Elden Ring for years to come.
Shadow of the Erdtree arrives at a retail price of £34.99 and is available for pre-order on platforms like Steam. Additionally, a collector’s edition is available for those seeking a more immersive experience.
