In a recent episode of the Made By Google podcast, Ivy Ross, Google’s head of design for hardware products, revealed that the company had been working on a second foldable phone alongside the recently launched Pixel Fold. Ross expressed pride in the team’s decision to hold back the initial foldable model, acknowledging that it didn’t meet their standards at the time.

Google introduced the Pixel Fold during its Google I/O 2023 event. This notebook-style smartphone boasts impressive specifications, including the in-house Tensor G2 SoC and a Titan M2 security chip. Running on Android 13, the Pixel Fold features a triple rear camera setup and offers a 7.6-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, there’s a 5.8-inch full-HD+ OLED cover panel with a matching 120Hz refresh rate. The outer display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, while the inner display features a plastic coating.

With a 4,821mAh battery, the Pixel Fold competes directly with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, Oppo Find N2 Flip, Tecno Phantom V Fold, and Huawei Mate X2. Google aims to establish a strong presence in the foldable market by offering a compelling device that combines cutting-edge technology with a unique form factor.

The confirmation of Google’s ongoing foldable phone development underscores the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality products. By exercising restraint and waiting until they can offer a foldable device that surpasses existing options, Google demonstrates its commitment to excellence and ensures a positive user experience.

As technology enthusiasts eagerly await more details about Google’s second foldable phone, the industry will be watching closely to see how the company’s future offering stacks up against the competition. The foldable smartphone market continues to evolve, and Google’s entry is set to contribute to the advancement of this innovative segment.
