Smartphone makers Blackberry in partnership with Onward Mobility is all set to release a new Android based smartphone with a physical qwerty keyboard and 5G support in 2021. Earlier Blackberry had announced its separation from TCL communications which put an end to the manufacturing of Blackberry phones.
“BlackBerry is thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a Blackberry 5G smartphone device with a physical keyboard leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand,” said John Chen, Executive Chairman, and CEO, BlackBerry in a statement, announcing the partnership with Onward Mobility.
The upcoming smartphone is said to be different from those manufactured by TCL in design and user experience although much details are not revealed regarding this.
“BlackBerry smartphones are known for protecting communications, privacy, and data. This is an incredible opportunity for OnwardMobility to bring next-generation 5G devices,” said Peter Franklin, CEO of OnwardMobility.
The partnership with TCL will expire by August end which has paved way for Onward Mobility. The BlackBerry phones had lost its popularity and declined in sales back in 2016 with the rise of iPhone and Android phones. This new venture is expected to be a comeback for the company.
