Are VPN providers also in the race of leaking personal user data online?

Soon after the recent Twitter Bitcoin scam, another news of compromised security of user data is coming up. Seven Hong Kong-based VPN providers-UFO VPN, FAST VPN, Free VPN, Super VPN, Flash VPN, Safe VPN, and Rabbit VPN are accused of leaking their user data online. These VPN providers are said to have almost 20 million users across the world and have reportedly leaked 1.2 TB user’s personal data online.

The user data leaked online from these VPN services include information like home addresses, payment details, PayPal email addresses and passwords, and more.

Surprisingly, the major strength of these VPN providers, which majorly affects their sales factor, is their ‘no log’ VPN services which do not record any personal user data.

Further, in research by Noam Rotem VPN Mentor, the server and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data were obtained.

The parent company for all the seven VPN services is said to be Dreamfii HK. Amongst them only Rabbit VPN has been dropped, rest other VPN applications are still available on Playstore.
