Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that they will be seeking a new director of cricket as Jimmy Adams\u2019 tenure comes to an end. Adams, a former West Indies captain and renowned cricketer, took up the role in January 2017, succeeding Richard Pybus. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of June, prompting CWI to initiate the search for a suitable successor.<\/p>\n
The deadline for applications has been set for June 14, with CWI expressing their gratitude for Adams\u2019 leadership and contributions during his nearly six-and-a-half-year tenure. CWI CEO Jonny Grave acknowledged Adams\u2019 significant achievements, particularly in overhauling the High-Performance structure, focusing on areas such as Coach Education & Development, Sport Science & Medicine, and the establishment of the Academy based at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua. Grave also expressed confidence that Adams would continue to make valuable contributions to West Indies Cricket in the future.<\/p>\n
Adams\u2019 time as director of cricket also witnessed several notable developments within CWI. Under his guidance, the women\u2019s Caribbean Premier League was introduced, separate selection panels were appointed for women\u2019s and youth teams, and a Women\u2019s Cricket Transformation Committee was formed to promote equality for women\u2019s players.<\/p>\n
However, it was a challenging period for the West Indies men\u2019s team in terms of their performance on the field. Since their triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2016, the team has failed to advance beyond the knockout stages of any ICC tournament. Moreover, they finished near the bottom in both the 2019-21 and 2021-23 World Test Championships. In response to these struggles, CWI implemented the recommendations of an independent review panel, which led to the appointment of format-specific coaches for the senior men\u2019s team: Andre Coley for Test cricket and Daren Sammy for white-ball cricket.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on his tenure, Adams expressed his honor at being part of CWI\u2019s ongoing evolution.
