This applies specifically at the 2026 World Cup (as a competition opt-in approved by IFAB).<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\">Why is it Called the \u201cPrestianni Law\u201d?<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\">The name comes from an incident involving <strong>Gianluca Prestianni<\/strong> (Benfica) and <strong>Vin\u00edcius J\u00fanior<\/strong> (Real Madrid) during a UEFA Champions League match in February 2026.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Vin\u00edcius alleged that Prestianni directed discriminatory (specifically homophobic) abuse at him while covering his mouth. Prestianni was later handed a six-match ban by UEFA for anti-gay conduct.
