BCCI Tightens IPL Substitute Rules, Limits On-Field Movement<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has further clarified its match playing conditions, restricting the role of substitute players during Indian Premier League matches. Under the revised guidelines, only the 16 players named in the official team sheet are allowed to enter the field of play.<\/p>\n

Players outside this group are no longer permitted to carry drinks, deliver messages or bring equipment onto the field. The move comes as part of a stricter interpretation of existing rules, with team managements recently informed of the changes.<\/p>\n

Clauses reinforced to control movement<\/h3>\n

The update reinforces Clause 11.5.2 \u2013 which states that drinks can only be taken onto the field without wasting time and with umpire approval, and only by properly attired players. It also strengthens Clause 24.1.4 \u2013 which requires non-playing squad members to wear training bibs while present in the playing area.<\/p>\n

In addition, the BCCI has limited the number of players allowed near the boundary rope. Only five individuals can be present in that zone at any given time, whether from the named 16 or the wider squad. Others must remain in the dugout and cannot move between the boundary line and the advertising boards.<\/p>\n

While the board has not specified a reason for the stricter enforcement, the intent appears to be clearer control over on-field activity. Teams typically travel with larger squads, but only a limited group will now have any role during the match.<\/p>\n

The changes are already in effect and apply across all IPL fixtures.<\/p>\n
