In the second innings of the rescheduled Test match against England<\/a> at Egbaston, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant<\/a> maintained his stellar performance in the red-format of cricket.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old hit 57 from 86 balls in the second innings on Monday after scoring a 146 off 111 balls in the first innings (July 4). He and Ravindra Jadeja<\/a> scored 222 runs together for the sixth wicket, which enabled India to score 416 runs overall. In Birmingham, he hit four sixes and twenty fours in one inning.<\/p>\n

He did begin the inning by leaping at the first James Anderson<\/a> pitch he faced. He inside-edged it for a single, which is likely to be this year\u2019s Tests\u2019 least sensible but most entertaining single. He continued to charge at Anderson before driving right past him in his first boundary.<\/p>\n

Pant\u2019s fifty in the second innings helped India extend their total lead above 350 after his spectacular 100 for India in the first innings.<\/p>\n

With 203 runs total\u2014146 in the first innings and 57 in the second\u2014Pant has now broken the record for most runs scored in a Test match in England. He surpassed the mark of 182 runs (14, 168) set in 1950 by West Indian Clyde Walcott. Pant also surpassed Gautam Gambhir<\/a> and former India player VVS Laxman<\/a> on the record of most runs an Indian batsman has made against England.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
