KL Rahul<\/a>, a consistent vice captain and senior India opener, would likely miss another few months of professional cricket after undergoing a successful sports hernia surgery in Germany.<\/p>\n

Taking to his official twitter handle, KL Rahul tweeted, \u201cIt\u2019s been a tough couple of weeks but the surgery was successful. I\u2019m healing and recovering well. My road to recovery has begun. Thank you for your messages and prayers. See you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rahul, who had to withdraw from the home T20I series against South Africa<\/a> earlier this month, has suffered with groin\u00a0strains and hamstring ailments on several occasions over the years.<\/p>\n

With the right therapy and rehabilitation, which Rahul is likely to receive at Bengaluru\u2019s National Cricket Academy, the average recovery time for an athlete following a sports hernia surgery is between six and twelve weeks.<\/p>\n

While he was away, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant<\/a> led India in the T20 International series against South Africa, while Hardik Pandya<\/a> was given his maiden opportunity to captain India against Ireland<\/a> while the other seniors continued preparing for the England Test.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s quest to win a series in England after 15 years would undoubtedly be exacerbated by Rahul\u2019s absence in the game\u2019s longest format. He was a standout batsman for India last season when they defeated England at Lord\u2019s and the Oval to lead the five-match series<\/a> 2-1 before the fifth and final Test at Manchester was cancelled due to fears over the Covid-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n
