Rahul Dravid<\/a>, the India head\u00a0coach, has provided a significant update on his health and availability amid reports that Rohit Sharma<\/a> has been ruled out of the England-India Test at Edgbaston<\/a> beginning July 1.<\/p>\n

In a battle against schedule to play the series-deciding Birmingham Test, Rohit tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday morning. Dravid emphasised that Rohit has not yet been ruled out even though it is likely that he would have to sit out.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the update on Rohit is that he is being monitored by our medical team, he is not yet been ruled out. Obviously, he needs to get the negative test to be available. We will keep monitoring him, we have still got close to 36 hours to go so he will have a test later tonight and one maybe tomorrow morning as well. We will see, it is really up to the medical team and sports science team to decide on that. We will keep monitoring,\u201d Dravid said in a virtual press conference.<\/p>\n

Dravid refused to respond when asked if Jasprit Bumrah<\/a> would take over as captain in the event that Rohit was unavailable. \u201cIt\u2019s probably better the communication comes officially from official sources,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce we have exact clarity on Rohit, you\u2019ll hear something from the official sources.
