According to Fox Sports, Warne’s management issued a brief statement in the early hours of Saturday stating that he died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand. Fox Sports reported that Shane was discovered lifeless in his villa and, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was unable to be revived.

Here are a few of the records held by the Spin King:

Most wickets in a calendar year (Test)

The Australian Hall of Famer took 96 wickets in 2005, a record that seems impossible to be touched. Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan who took 90 wickets the following year, is the only cricketer who seemed to get near this record. No cricketer has touched the 90 wicket mark in the last decade.

First cricketer to take 700 wickets

On December 26, 2006, Shane Warne became the first cricketer to claim 700 wickets in Test cricket.

He achieved this milestone in his 144th match at Melbourne against England. Muttiah Muralitharan is the only other bowler to take 700 wickets in test cricket. Additionally, Muttiah later surpassed Shane Warne in claiming the most wickets in Test cricket.

Most consecutive 4 wickets in an innings (ODI)

Shane Warne holds a record of taking 4 wickets in an innings in three consecutive ODI matches. Warne scored 3154 runs in 199 innings in his Test career with an average of 17.32. He scored fifties on many occasions but could never convert it into a century. Warne’s highest score in Test cricket is 99, showing his misfortune.

Most runs in a career all formats combined without a hundred

Warne scored 4172 across all formats of the game but could never convert it into three figures. Muttiah Muralitharan, with 22 wickets, holds the record.
