South Africa\u2019s women\u2019s team captain Dane Van Niekerk has been ruled out of the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup following an ankle fracture. Niekerk accidentally slipped on a wet surface at home last week, causing her an ankle fracture.<\/p>\n
The allrounder has been removed from the training camp ahead of the ODI series against West Indies. The series against West Indies could have been a good build-up for Niekerk going on to the World Cup.<\/p>\n
The team doctor Tshegofatso Gaetewe said: \u201cAs things stand, she doesn\u2019t require surgery but will be monitored closely. It\u2019s a stable fracture with minimal displacement and her recovery timeline is no less than 12 weeks,\u201d reported\u00a0ESPN\u00a0<\/em>Cricinfo.<\/p>\n Losing Viekerk is a severe loss for the team. Viekerk\u2019s Captaincy and all-around capability could have been a massive asset for the team in the Women\u2019s 2022 Cricket World Cup. Convenor of Selectors, Clinton du Preez, said: \u201cLosing Dane is massive for the team and the count; we will sorely miss her leadership and all-around cricket abilities. I would like to wish her all the best with her recovery and a smooth and seamless return to the national team.\u201d<\/p>\n The 10-day training camp for the West Indies series will begin soon, and the 21- member extended squad will enter the bio bubble on Friday.
